Before my husband Dennis and I were referred to CARMF, we were feeling discouraged that our dream of having a child would never be realized. We begin “trying” to get pregnant about three years into our marriage. We came late to the marriage “game” as were were 39 and 34 respectively on our wedding day in 2000.
We met with my OB/GYN and I started Clomid, when that didn’t produce the desired results, we were referred to a doctor to have IUIs performed. We were told, “IVF, is our ace in the hole.” After four tries, no luck.
That doctor finally gave us Dr. Corsan’s name. We made an appointment that same day.
When we entered the offices at CARMF, we were greeted by the receptionist and asked to wait a few minutes. The nurse took us back and asked about our “fertility journey.” After meeting with Dr. Corson, we felt that finally someone is there for us and is going to help us realize our dream of having a baby.
After tests were run, we were pointed in the direction of using an Egg Donor. CARMF, set up our first attempt of finding a donor. We did what needed to be done, unfortunately that donor did not work out. Imagine our disappointment. We came back in and at that time CARMF was just beginning their In-house donor program. We looked through the catalogue and found a woman who had been a successful donor in the past. We selected her and our next attempts began. We went through two cycles and were successful after our second implantation.
That was in December of 2005. What a Christmas present for us and our families!
We were still seeing Dr. Corson until in was released to my OB/GYN. I had a small scare the day before our scheduled appointment and to put my mind at ease, I was seen that same day. The nurses at CARMF, were so patient with me. They answered any questions I had. That was the first time I heard my baby’s heartbeat!
August 8, 2006, I delivered our son, Liam Adam via cesarean section. He was a healthy baby. We are so grateful to CARMF for helping to make our dreams come true.
We try to send a Christmas card every year with our son’s picture on it so that you can see how he has grown. We did bring him to visit and have a picture of him with Erica, who was one of the nurses we worked with.
We would tell anyone having difficulties starting their family to definitely go see the wonderful staff at CARMF.
Thank you for all you did to bring Liam into our lives. Thank you to the donor who selflessly gave her eggs so that we might have a child.
Dawn, Dennis and Liam Smith
A complete family thanks to CARMF
